An $800,000 grant for Mystic River Homes Cottages in Groton is among the $11.5 million in grants that Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced on Friday.

With the grant, the Town of Groton and Mystic River Homes will renovate four garden-style buildings and update the community room, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

Exterior renovations will include solar panels for the community room, along with roof replacements and other energy upgrades. Interior renovations will include replacement of flooring, water heaters, kitchen cabinets and countertops.

Mystic River Homes is a nonprofit that provides housing for the elderly that is subsidized by the United States Department of Agriculture.

The grants were awarded under the Community Development Block Grant Small Cities program, which provides funding for projects that help with affordable housing and job creation in cities and towns with populations below 50,000.

Groton was one of 20 municipalities across the state to receive a grant.
